Travel 'up north' to explore and unwind

If we hadn’t gone looking for Toad in the Hole, we might not have noticed it — in fact, we rode our bikes right past it the first time. Inside it was as if we’d stepped onto a train car, small as it was. Six different conversations were underway, and we could hear them all, with only three booths on one wall and eight stools facing the sizzling flat grill on the other. Over the strains of Shania Twain, Amy Winehouse, Led Zeppelin and Simon & Garfunkel, our artfully tattooed waitress ran down the bread choices.

The "John McGivern's Main Streets" has been airing on PBS for four years. John McGivern, the host of the show, said the 11th episode of the fifth season will highlight good things in the city of Eagle River. McGivern is visiting many sites in Eagle River, such as the Toad in the Hole restaurant.

Here are three reasons why it's so hard to find a seat at Toad in the Hole, an Eagle River breakfast and lunch joint. One: It's tiny. There's room for a maximum of 20 diners at one time. "It's like a food truck, but with a super tiny dining room," Toad in the Hole chef Ashlee Millin told WJFW-TV 12, the NBC affiliate in Rhinelander.
